The Last Taoist

The village was called Hongcun, and had existed for no one knew how many years. The majority of the people in the village had originally fled from all over the country during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period to escape famine. Many of them and Their stories had already been buried in the yellow soil. However, there was an old archway at the entrance of the village. It was built with two pillars as thick as water buckets, and underneath each pillar there was a stone tortoise. People did not know what “stone tortoise” meant, so they called them “old king eights.” The pillars on top of the old king eights supported a stone plaque that had a large “Hong” character written on it.
